Statement of Jeffery D. Long
Though questioning the official account of 9/11 is a controversial move, which some would regard as tantamount to treason, questions that have been raised by experts in a variety of fields regarding this account, and the moral, legal, and political implications of these questions, are such that it would be irresponsible of our government not to carry out a thorough, open, and truly independent inquiry into these events.  The events of that terrible day were used to justify the disastrous policies of the Bush administration, from which our country has yet to recover.  We owe it to those who died on 9/11, and all who have died since, in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as to future generations of Americans whose civil liberties are at risk, to conclusively determine and reveal the truth of 9/11.  Even for those who adhere to the official account, an independent inquiry should be welcome, so that account could be vindicated.  Otherwise, the cloud of suspicion that now hangs over our government, particularly the previous administration, will never be lifted.  And if the official account is as flawed as many experts suspect, that is all the more reason for the truth to come out and for justice to be done.
